There are certain types of exercise or workouts where it is recommended to take off jewellery for safety reasons, while there are other types of workouts where it is generally safe to wear jewellery. Here are some guidelines:

When to take off jewellery:

Weightlifting or strength training

Jewellery can get caught on weights or gym equipment and cause injury. It's best to remove rings, bracelets, and necklaces before lifting weights.

Contact sports

Any type of jewellery can pose a risk during contact sports such as football, basketball, or soccer. It's best to remove all jewellery before participating in contact sports.

Water sports

Chlorine and salt water can damage some types of jewellery. It's best to remove all jewellery before swimming, surfing, or doing any water sports.

High-impact aerobics

Activities like jumping, running, or bouncing can cause jewellery to jostle around, tangle up and distract you from your workout. It's best to remove all jewellery before engaging in high-impact aerobics.

When it's safe to wear jewellery:

Yoga or Pilates

As mentioned earlier, it's generally safe to wear lightweight and unobtrusive jewellery during these types of workouts, as long as they do not interfere with your movements or distract you or others in the class.

Low-impact aerobics

If the workout involves gentle movements like walking, stretching, or light dancing, it's usually safe to wear small and lightweight jewellery, like the Lea and Jenni Hoops.

Running or jogging

Simple and lightweight jewellery, such as stud earrings like the Diana or a small pendant necklace like the Luna Coin necklace, is usually fine for running or jogging. However, it's important to make sure that the jewellery is securely fastened and won't fall off while you are moving.

In general, it's always a good idea to err on the side of caution and remove jewellery during exercise if you are not sure if it's safe to wear.

  • While you can wear your items in the shower. We always recommend to remove your jewellery before showering or swimming, as soap, shampoo, and chlorine can all damage certain types of jewellery.
